Verbatim Store 'N Go 1GB USB drive no longer lights up

Verbatim Store 'N Go 1GB USB drive This unit no longer lights up, nor is recognised by my or other PC's. Although the msg "New Hardware Recognised" appears, I get "Please insert a disc into drive F (G whatever)" and can't read/write to it. I have tried cahnging the disc anmes G, H etec, to no avail. I read somewhere that this unit may have shorted out, so that might mean that it's a total loss. Is there any (verbatim) means of getting the data back? Thanls
